David & Kathi

David and Kathi were married in 1991 and moved to China two weeks later where they taught English to university students for a year. They then moved to Sebring, Florida where they worked and raised their three children. In 2013 they purchased a home health agency in Winter Haven, Florida that they grew and developed until selling in 2018. In 2019, inspired by Tennessee’s natural beauty and a desire to live closer to two of their three children attending university near Chattanooga, they purchased Hiwassee Acres with the dream of turning it into a place of respite for those looking for a quality place to get away.

More about David

David was born in southern California and later raised in NW Arkansas. He graduated with his business degree near Chattanooga and met Kathi there. He’s always had an entrepreneurial spirit and has worked as such in areas as diverse as healthcare reimbursement consulting to building contracting. He has always strived to provide quality and value to those he’s served and continues that in his current work at the Acres. His hobbies are spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, and doing hands-on transformative things on the property.

More about Kathi

Kathi was born in Panama and raised in Honduras and Guatemala. She spoke English at home, Spanish at school, and Spanglish when moving to the US at age 12! She met David in college as she pursued her nursing degree. She worked in various capacities as a nurse and later focused on homeschooling her 3 children. She’s had a long term passion for hospitality. She desires that every guest at Hiwassee Acres experiences a sense of belonging, peace, tranquility and care when staying here.

Our Kids

Our kids are our pride and joy. We feel extremely blessed to have our children currently living close by. Michael and his wife Daniella live in Cleveland where he works as a mechanical engineer and she as a communication expert for an NGO. Kristi is currently living in Nashville where she is pursuing a law degree. Matthew, our youngest, lives in Cleveland, TN where he partners with David in a VoIP communication business.
